Cold, wet and windy day brings a card!

13 May

I hope this post find everyone well today.

It has been a cold wet horrible day here in Melbourne today so after being at school this morning I came home and felt like hibernating and making a card. Was very naughty of me to do as I was out all day yesterday, having fun though with Dee shopping at Ikea, so had not done any cleaning so in retrospect I should have been cleaning today not making a card. Oh well need to let it give sometimes!

Anyhow I will keep this quick as I have some soup and dinner on the stove that I need to tend too. Here is today’s card:

Unfortunately as the weather is so yuck when I tried to take the photo by the window it was too dark and now that I have put the flash on it has made the green look at lot brighter than what it actually is. It is for my brother, Ben, who’s birthday is in a few weeks. I always struggle with masculine cards so was happy that I actually managed to make one ahead of time.

I will be entering this card into the following challenges:

Cupcake Craft Challenges – Buttons

Sketch & Stash – patterned paper new as well as one of my shades of grey copics

Stamp Something – Birthday Somethings

The paper I have used is from October Afternoon – Report Card, stamp is from Kraftin Kimmie, buttons I had in my stash, apron strings punch from Fiskars, ribbon and pearls from kaisercraft, spellbinders Nestabilities labels four, cardstock from Stampin Up, copic markers for colouring and last but not least some faux stitching.

Well I better dash.

Until next time xoxo

My last GDT Papertake Weekly Guest card

11 May

Hi there after getting two posts in one day lat week I did not manage to get back again. As I mentioned it was Elizabeth’s birthday on Thursday and then the rest of the week and the weekend was spent catching up with everyone for her birthday and mothers day. If you are in Australia and I think also the US I hope you had a wonderful mothers day and that your kiddies (big or small) managed to make you feel special.

Today I am bringing you my last card as a Guest Designer at Papertake Weekly 😦  This weeks challenge at PTW is “Shiny, Sparkly & Special”. I have used lots of bling on my card but in subtle ways:

(The photo has actually picked up the glitter heaps it does not look so harsh in life)

The actual card base is metallic cardstock, you should also be able to see that I have added sparkles to the dress, one of the borders and some gems as well. Here is a closer look at the dress:

This dress, by B Line Designs, I picked up from Heaven Scent Crafts last year and I have to admit have been used a couple of times and then laid neglected.  I used my watercolour pencils to colour it and then I cut it out and mounted it to make it pop from the page before adding some glitter to the lines so it shines ever so lightly (almost like a chiffon layer on top, well at least that is the effect I was going for!). I have also used some ribbons that was in my drawer, faux stitching together with some Pink Pirouette, Basic Grey and Pretty in Pink cardstock from Stampin Up.

So there you have it my last card as GDT at Papertake. I have had so much fun and would like to thank Dawny and the other DT members for their lovely comments and of course to all of you who managed to pop by and have a look too.

I better dash going to get the kiddies into bed and sit back with a nice cuppa.

Until next time xoxo

Whats going on

5 May

Two posts in one day wow don’t expect to see it again for a while!! I don’t normally make 2 cards in one day but as I mentioned before I have a heap of cards I need to get made this week and I am running out of time!

This card is for my Nana’s husband whose birthday is tomorrow. We are celebrating with him tomorrow when my family meets up for dinner at the pub to celebrate Lizzie’s birthday. It was only half through making her card today that I realized I did not have a male card on hand.  The layout is my own, I know I hear you shouting what you did not follow a sketch challenge, LOL! The card does however come into this weeks challenge a Lili of the Valley challenge which is summery. I think this image suits summer to a tee. Wish it was warm here and not the start of winter. Oh well soon enough summer will be back around again and then I will be probably complaining it is too hot!

I have used image from Lili of the Valley, coloured using watercolour pencils, ribbon I had in my stash and patterned paper is from Cosmo Cricket. I have also used a couple of kaisercraft pearls and distressed then inked all my edges. It is only just now that I am looking at the card to see if mentioned everything when I noticed that the cardstock I stamped the sentiment (from Kraftin’ Kimmie) onto is actually vanilla not white, oops, somehow though I don’t think he will notice.

Well I better dash I think I will go and make her birthday cake now.

Until next time xoxo

My baby’s turning 8!

5 May

As I mentioned in my last post it is my baby girls 8th Birthday tomorrow. I still see her as my baby so often when I look at her these days and see such a confident bubbly girl I shake my head in amazement and wonder how did we get here. Lizzie darling I know that you want read this, or who knows maybe you will, but I am so proud of you sweetheart with all that you have already managed to achieve in your short life, I look forward to watching you continue to grow. Happy Birthday for tomorrow princess xo

Sorry for my rambling then but I just wanted to share with you all how proud I am of my baby! Goes without saying that the card I am brining you today is for my special girl. I was looking through the challenges trying to get some inspiration when I came across this weeks challenge at Stamp Something, a sketch.

I then popped over to Anyone for Anya (lots of layers) and saw Stacey’s card with lots of bright colours. Straight away I was inspired and went off for a search in my papers for the brightest, girly colours I could find! This is what I came up with:

I love the Heidi among flowers stamp and think it matches this card well. The papers are pink (not quite as dark as in photo) background from My Little Shoebox-Little ladies-Jana, Blue strip Basic Grey and the green is also from My Little Shoebox, Imagine a forest-get the camera and the chocolate chip from Stampin Up. I have also used my copics for colouring, Apron Strings Fiskars punch, kaisercraft rhinestones, spellbinders Nestabilities, kaisercraft ribbon and love heart pin from Quixotic.

I have lots of cards I need to make this week so hopefully I will be back later today with another card to show you.

Until next time xoxo

papertake weekly #37

24 Mar

My dear friend Kirsty son Dylan is turning 5 and as we have brought him a fishing rod for his birthday I thought the card I have made for him today suits.

The image I got from Lilly of the Valley and have held off using it as I was not sure how to actually use it (I brought it after my husband saw it and insisted that I buy it, how can a woman say no!). I coloured the image using my watercolour pencils last night and put it aside feeling very unmotivated. Then today I looked at this weeks sketch over at Papertake Weekly (they always seem to have the great sketches) and got to work right away:

 ptw _37[1]

I have had the papers (Cosmo Cricket) sitting in my stash for a while now but thought they suited the image of this card well. The card is very basic but I think the colours and they layout together with a little bit of faux stitching was all it needed. The colouring is ok think I will need to play around with this stamp a little more to get the right shadings etc.

Today is a wet and overcast day up here so I think I may play a little more before the mayhem sets in this afternoon, Elizabeth has netball training after school and then after dinner I am off to a committee meeting so between training, dinner and the meeting I have 2 readers to do, 2 lunches to make, bathing of two grubby munchkins and then getting them off to bed for my mum who has kindly given up her evening to come and watch them.

Until next time xoxo

A special card for my special boy…

22 Mar

My little baby is turning 6 soon and with school holidays fast approaching I thought I better make his card so he will not see it. I can’t believe how quick the last 6 years have gone just feels like yesterday that I was holding him for the first time now he is a big cheeky monster that runs around the house at a million miles an hour!

I came across a challenge blog the other day called Just Christmas and Birthday Cards. I think the name is pretty self explanative. I have used their current sketch for the base of Robbie’s card. I will also be entering this card in Stamp Something current challenge – Distressing.

I have used the Sir Dunstan stamp from High Hopes as when Robbie saw this stamp a few months ago he begged me to make his birthday card using this stamp. I have had fun colouring the image using my watercolour pencils. Paper is from Cosmo Cricket and the cardstock is all Stampin Up. Of course I have also distressed my edges. A fairly simple card lets hope he likes it!

I better dash still got a few things to do.

Until next time xoxo

What do Flower Power & The Pink Elephant have in common?

25 Feb

ARGH…. That is how I feel at the moment! I have been on the job hunt for the last few weeks and had another interview today and I must say I am NOT enjoying it!!! Although I have not had success yet, although I seem to be told that I just missed out on each of them (I am sure this is just a standard line), I am not all that bothered as we are not desperate for me to return to the workforce it is something I would like to do to help pay for my addiction! Oh yeah and to break up some of the hours why the kids are at school. I will hopefully find out about this one by the beginning on next week. Fingers crossed with this one though as it is 5 minutes from home and only 10-15 hours per week, ideal.

One of the gorgeous mums at school asked me the other day for a couple cards one for her mum and one for her niece who is turning 7. I went home and started going through my stash only to notice that although I have lots of cards for ladies I did not have much for young girls (must because the kids are always going to parties so I use them) so my challenge over the next few days is to build up some reserve of cards for younger girls.

I turned to this weeks sketch over at The Pink Elephant and also took on the challenge at Totally Gorjuss which is Flower Power.

Please excuse the photo the colours are bit darker than in life and it seems to be a bit blurly. Does not show like this on my computer so not sure what is happening.

I know that I used this paper not long ago but I hate having half bits of paper hanging around as I feel that it will go to waste. The other good thing about wanting to use up this paper is of course that it is flower patterned. Also I thought the image of the girl, which came from All that Scraps CC Designs Spring Kit (which I have cut out and 3D onto the top of the tree trunk) reminded me of a little flower power kid with the hair in pigtails and of course with the flower on her tee-shirt suited the flower theme well.

I came across a great tutorial the other day (sorry ladies can not for the life of me, remember where it was) on how to make the perfect bow. Although it is far from perfect I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised I think the red/purple ribbon looks great over the lace.

I have used my latest favorite colouring tool, watercolour pencils for this and have also applied some faux stitching.  The cardstock is Kraft from Stampin Up.

I have to say that I am enjoying my card making again this week so hopefully I will be back soon with another card for you.

Until next time xoxo
